Varied productions in our 1,850-seat auditorium (dating from 1899), and in our 200-seat Patrick Studio ensure we play a key role in the region’s world-class cultural scene. With c.400 live performances annually in our main house, we present nothing but the best in touring musical theatre, ballet, dance, opera, pantomime, drama, and comedy. Our Patrick Studio welcomes a range of smaller-scale productions and is an important base for dance and for the development of new artistic work.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Finance team play a vital role in supporting Birmingham Hippodrome's mission and ambitions. We do this by supporting effective decision-making with timely and informative management information, maintaining an effective financial control environment, and upholding compliance and regulatory requirements across the three companies in the Hippodrome group.
This is a varied role, where no two days are the same! It’s an exciting time to be joining the Finance team as we embark on implementing a brand-new finance system, whilst improving processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, efficient and user-friendly.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, reliable and accurate Assistant Management Accountant to support the Finance Team in maintaining strong financial processes and delivering clear, timely reporting across the organisation. The Assistant Management Accountant plays a key role in maintaining robust financial records and providing departmental reporting and support.
You will be responsible for processing transactional postings, completing monthly reconciliations, and supporting overall financial reporting and year-end processes across the companies. You will also work closely with designated Heads of Department, producing clear financial reports that support effective decision-making and help inform the forecasting and budgeting processes.
JOB DUTIES:
Transactional Posting & Financial Control
Process day-to-day financial transactions, including credit card transactions and expenses, flexi wages journals and bank transactions.
Process and ensure correct coding of commercial sales, visitor services and events income and cost of sales.
Calculation of recharges.
Process and ensure correct coding of banking transactions.
Other tasks that support the month end process as required.
Balance Sheet & Bank Reconciliations
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
Reconcile various balance sheet accounts, including visitor services deposits.
Investigation and correction of any variances as required.
Provide support for other balance sheet postings such as for Fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, accrued income and deferred income (as required).
Departmental Reporting & Management Accounts
Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and commentary for assigned departments (e.g., Visitor services).
Meet regularly with department head to review monthly budget vs. actual reports and investigate discrepancies.
Help prepare schedules and documentation for annual audits and funder reporting requirements.
The role also supports the whole team by providing holiday cover for certain tasks and responding to ad hoc queries.
ABOUT YOU:
📊 We're looking for someone AAT-Qualified to at least level 3 - this is a must-have.
You'll need advanced Excel skills including complex functions, excellent attention to detail (including when working at pace), and experience working in a Finance team. You'll be able to work independently and to deadlines, with resilience, positivity, and enthusiasm, and have strong verbal and written skills. You'll be able to take initiative and problem-solve when needed, and you'll be keen on learning and development. The ideal candidate would also have experience using Exchequer or Xledger systems - and an active interest in theatre and the cultural sector!
